Dear GAE Members,

The previously scheduled Feb. 15 work day for teachers will be the third furlough day, and teachers will be off that day. The other two of the three furlough days have already been served as snow day closures. The board is still looking into possibly prorating the three furlough day pay cuts over the remaining pay periods in this contract year to reduce the effects of the three day pay loss in a single month's pay period. I pointed out that some teachers actually did report to work on one of the snow days and asked how they would be compensated. That thought had not come up at that point, but they agreed to make proper compensation for those who did report to work and were signed in. Please note that the furlough days payroll arrangements vary between 190 day contracts and 220 day contracts. The didstict is working on the situations where some teachers did report to school on one of the snow days.

Bi-annually, the GAE Legislative Committee conducts a legislative survey to obtain members’ input in the development of the Association’s Legislative Priorities. The committee will meet after the results are compiled to develop priorities for the 2011 & 2012 legislative sessions. To view the current priorities, click on 2010 GAE Legislative Priorities and under advocacy click on priorities.  The online survey will be available for members to complete through February 5, 2010.

Follow these steps to complete the survey:

Ø  Go to http://gae1.org/

Ø  Scroll down to the Legislative Survey Icon and click on “For Members Only! Legislative Survey”

Ø  Upon request, type in your username (first letter of your first name and your last name spelled out without space) and your password (last four digits of your social security number)

As an incentive for taking the survey, a member’s name will be drawn each week to receive a $25 Target Gift Card. We thank you for completing the survey, and please encourage other GAE members to do so as well.
